Welcome to the Derwent Cluster Website. The Derwent Cluster consists of two Uniting Church congregations in Claremont and Glenorchy, working together in the northern suburbs of Hobart, Tasmania. We are a friendly and inclusive group of people who meet for worship every Sunday and have a number of other activities that we engage in during the week. You are very welcome to join us for our worship services of any of our other activities.
Sunday Worship
The Glenorchy Congregation normally meets at 9.30 am and the Claremont-Bagdad congregation at 10am. On the first Sunday of each month, instead of two services, we join together for one combined service at 10am, alternating between the two sites. There will not be a service at the other church on that Sunday. For locations contact us or check our Facebook Page or "Other Information" on the Resources page on this site.
You will find more detailed information on the two congregations under the Congregations tab. Just click on the congregation you are interested in.
To find more about who is preaching where and when and the text and topic for the week, the preaching plan is available here: Preaching Plan December 2023- February 2024
Our Minister is Rev Sherrin Jackman who joined us on a part time basis in 2021.
Activities
For more information on these activities, or for specific dates, contact us, or check our Facebook page. Some extra details may also be found on the page of the relevant church congregation
Messy Church
Messy Church is an intergenerational form of church for adults and children, based around a theme or story from the Bible. It includes craft and activities, a celebration time and a shared meal. Messy Church is held at Glenorchy Uniting Church on the last Friday of most months, from 5-7pm.
Coffee and Chat Groups
We have two groups that meet on a regular basis for a casual coffee/tea and chat. The Claremont group meets every Friday at 10am at Claremont Plaza shopping centre. The Glenorchy group meets monthly at a local cafe. Look under the relevant congregation for more details.
Bible Study and Prayer Groups
A prayer group meets at the Glenorchy Uniting Church at 10am on Wednesdays. Another group for contemplative prayer meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at the Glenorchy church at 2pm. Bible study groups are run intermittently, mostly at Glenorchy Uniting.
Other Activities
Other events and activities occur intermittently at both churches. Details will be posted in our News and Events section and on Facebook.
